PLANSPONSOR's DB Administration Survey showcases the
experience and capabilities of leading providers of defined benefit
administration services that cover more than 12,000 plans and 33 million
participants. With 85% of plans representing single-employer corporate plans,
the survey accounts for a significant portion of the 41,820,000 corporate DB
participants reported by the Department of Labor in its most recent Private
Pension Plan Bulletin. All data for the 2013 survey were as of 12/31/2012.

Methodology: PLANSPONSOR’s third annual Defined Benefit (DB)
Administration Survey was sent to providers of DB participant administration
services and excludes providers focused exclusively on investment-only, consultant/advisory
or actuarial services. The questionnaire, which asked for more than 150 data
points related to a provider’s experience and capabilities, was available
online through early March and received a total of 36 responses. All data
presented are as of December 31, 2012; historical data are as of December 31,
2011. The provider “rank” indicates its relative order sorted by total DB plan
participants. Items marked as “NA” were unavailable at time of publication;
those marked as “NR” gave no response. “DB only” and “DB/DC” clients are based
on total DB clients (vs. total client relationships across all product lines)
and may not total 100% due to other product bundles.
DEFINED BENEFIT ADMIN SURVEY
Like our Recordkeeping Survey on the defined contribution side of the market, the DB Administration Survey showcases providers in the DB market—who the major players are, who they serve, what services they provide. Also included is information on overall market sizing.
