How did San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge get its name?
The bridge name was inspired by explorer John C. Frémont, who named the entrance to San Francisco Golden Gate after the Golden Horn, the inlet forming the harbor for Istanbul, Turkey, because the entrance to San Francisco reminded him of that harbor.
