TRIVIAL PURSUITS: What Is the Deepest Canyon in the United States?
The Grand Canyon in Arizona is a famous tourist attraction and by overall dimensions is the largest canyon in the U.S.

However, it is not the deepest.
What is the deepest canyon in the U.S.?
Sources give that title to Hells Canyon, a 10-mile (16 km) wide canyon carved by the Snake River along the border of eastern Oregon, eastern Washington and western Idaho in the United States. It is part of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area and measures a maximum depth of 7,993 feet (2,436 m).
However, a part of Kings Canyon, carved by glaciers and cut by the Kings River is said to have the deepest point. It reaches a maximum depth of 8,200 feet, when measured from Spanish Peak down to the confluence of the Middle and South Forks of the Kings River.
By comparison, the deepest part of Grand Canyon is about 6,000 feet.
