Health Care Exchange for School Employees Launched

November 22, 2013 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – The Southern California Schools Employee Benefits Association (SCSEBA) Marketplace was launched to meet the demand for an exchange-like insurance product for school employees.

The Marketplace addresses the requirements of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) calling for the creation of health insurance exchanges by 2014. “We are offering California public school districts the ability to present their employees freedom of choice in selecting affordable, quality health care from a trusted source that is built for and by schools in an easy to use format,” says Karla M. Rhay, chief administrative officer of SCSEBA.

The SCSEBA Marketplace is designed to help district employees shop for health insurance the same way they might currently shop for other Web-based products. All medical plans are offered online in a tiered format enabling individual employees to compare plans and options before clicking on their final decision. “There are four HMO choices and three PPO choices with names such as Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. It’s really about choice for the individual member while offering the school district cost-efficient plans that compete with most, if not all, other school pools across California,” Linda de la Torre, SCSEBA’s president explains.
