SURVEY SAYS: Favorite Holiday Movie 2021
NewsDash readers choose their favorite holiday movie.
Last week, I asked NewsDash readers, “What is your favorite holiday movie/show?”
For the first time since 2007, we have a new No. 1 choice.
From the list provided, no responding readers chose A Christmas Carol, Elf, Frosty the Snowman, Scrooged, Single All the Way, The Polar Express and The Santa Claus. Slightly more than 2% of responding readers each chose A Christmas Story, Home Alone, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Bishop’s Wife and The Ref.
Tied for fourth place, with nearly 5% of responding readers choosing each, were Holiday Inn; Miracle on 34th Street; Planes, Trains and Automobiles; and White Christmas. Tied for third place, with slightly more than 7% of respondents choosing each, were Love Actually, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Our former No. 1, It’s a Wonderful Life, tied for second place with Christmas Vacation. Each was selected by 14.6% of respondents.
And the new No. 1, with nearly 20% of votes, is A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Those who chose “Other” listed Die Hard and Office Christmas Party.
Die Hard was not on the list because of the debate about whether it is a Christmas movie, but in comments left by responding readers, it’s obvious it definitely is for some. Several people noted how difficult it is to choose just one favorite. No Editor’s Choice this time, but a big thank you to everyone who responded to the survey.
Verbatim
Even when I think I can’t possibly watch the same holiday movie again, about 5 minutes in I’m hooked. Christmas, more than any other holiday, can do that to me.
It really is hard to pick a favorite holiday movie, there are still some on the list I should make time for.
Just like the 31 Movies of Halloween each year, these movies just help me feel a little bit more of that holiday spirit…especially when it might be a little low this year.
You left out Die Hard? 😊
I hope somebody writes in Die Hard!
In my opinion, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer will forever be the favorite Christmas movie.
Ten of the movie choices are my favorites! Unfortunately, I can only select one.
Nothing beats Cousin Eddie emptying his RV tank in a short robe smoking a cigar…
It was a difficult choice because I love them all – I just love Christmas!!
Die Hard is a Christmas movie – it just depends how you look at it.
How can you pick just one????? But I LOVE that you put The Ref on the list, even though you didn’t list Die Hard and Lethal Weapon (definitely Christmas movies in our household!).
Always “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” with that adorable, red-nosed reindeer coming in second place. Shout out for “The Shop Around the Corner”—an oldie-but-goodie holiday-themed film that rarely gets recognized as such.
