Hedge Funds Advance 1.06% in October
The top 25% of hedge funds gained an average of 1.63%, while the bottom quarter was up an average of 0.01% for the month. Technology sector funds, the month’s top performing strategy, were up an average of 4.59% in October. CTA/Managed Futures advanced by 2.74 while Emerging Markets were ahead by 1.97%. By comparison, the S&P 500 was up 1.40% during the same period.
Through October, the year-to-date average gain for hedge funds was 3.89%. The top 25% of hedge funds gained 6.93% for the year-to-date, while the bottom quarter were down 0.51% over the same period. Emerging markets led the way on a mean year-to-date basis with a 12.08% The S&P 500 is up 1.64% since the beginning of 2004.
Hedge funds included in these calculations were up 1.26% on average in September. The top 25% of hedge funds gained an average of 1.80% in September, while the bottom 25% were up an average 0.07% during the same period.
