Plan Regulators Release Latest Form 5500

September 29, 2004 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The Department of Labor's (DoL) Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA), the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have released the 2004 version of Form 5500 with new filing requirements.

>Both the Form 5500 and the Form 5500-EZ are essentially unchanged from last year , according to a DoL press release, with only minor modifications. One such change is that filings may be rejected if they contain social security numbers or any attachment that is open to public inspection on the form.

>Information copies of the form, as well as schedules for filing and instructions are available on the EBSA Web site,  http://www.efast.dol.gov/forms_pubs.html. Viewers can find tips for filing as well as answers to frequently asked questions. The official government printed forms will also be available by calling 1-800-TAX-FORM.

>The DoL said filers should monitor the EFAST Web site for information on software vendors approved by the government for completing the 2004 forms, as well as to check on availability of official printed forms.
