More Employers Offer Same-Sex Benefits Coverage
December 1, 2000 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Nearly a
quarter of large employers (22%) surveyed offer domestic
partner benefits, more than twice as many as the 10% in 1997,
according to a new survey by Hewitt Associates.
Reported by Nevin E. Adams
Almost two-thirds (64%) of those cover both same- and opposite-sex partners.
In fact, 44% of the companies in Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work for in America now offer domestic partner benefits, according to SHRM Online.
Proof Statement
A vast majority (87%) requires some proof of domestic partnership, while 92% require the employee to notify the company when a domestic partner relationship ends.
More than two-thirds (68%) establish a minimum time period before an employee can replace one domestic partner coverage with another.
The Hewitt survey covered 570 large US employers.
