Money Market Funds Gain Favor in Asia in February
SI’s Asia Flow Watch report shows China saw a net outflow of $2.5 billion. Money Market funds were the big winners with $7.9 billion in net inflows, and Equity Asia Pacific funds were the big losers with $6.9 billion in net outflows.
Money Market funds were also most favored in Thailand, pulling in $848 million in February. Bond Asia Pacific funds were least favored, posting a net outflow of $311 million. The country saw a total net inflow of $327 million.
In Taiwan, Bond Global funds made up the bulk of the $529 million net outflow, with $303 million leaving the category. The biggest inflows were to Money Market funds, at $44 million.
In India, Money Market funds pulled in nearly $2 billion while Mixed Conservative funds posted a net outflow of $74 million. Total inflows for the month were $3.4 billion.
In Japan, total net inflows were $3.9 billion, with Real Estate funds pulling in $3.2 billion. In particular, Fidelity’s US REIT Fund pulled in close to $1.4 billion for the month, Strategic Insight noted. Bond High Yield funds followed with $1.9 billion in net inflows, and Equity Asia Pacific funds posted a net inflow of $1.2 billion. Bond Global funds saw the highest net outflow of $1.2 billion for the month.
Hong Kong posted a $730 million net inflow, led by Equity Asia Pacific funds with $484 million.
In Singapore, a net outflow of $150 million to Equity Asia Pacific Funds made up the bulk of the total $187 million in total outflows.
Korea posted a net outflow in February of $6.1 billion. Money Market funds were the biggest losers posting a $6.9 billion net outflow. Equity Asia Pacific Funds pulled in $1.3 billion for the month.
Bond Asia Pacific funds pulled in $110 million for the month in Malaysia. The country saw a total net inflow of $298 million.
In Indonesia, Equity Asia Pacific funds were favored, posting a $186 million net inflow. Total inflows for the month were $234 million.
