Wash. Governor Delays Family Leave Law for Three Years
May 20, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Washington Governor
Chris Gregoire has approved a bill delaying by three years
implementation of a 2007 law giving employees up to five
weeks of paid leave after the birth or adoption of a
child.
Reported by Fred Schneyer
Business Insurance reports that S.B. 6158 sets the new implementation date for the paid leave mandate at October 2012 rather than the original October 2009.
According to Business Insurance, the delay was designed to give lawmakers more time to find funding for the program in which employees would be eligible for up to $250 a week of paid leave for up to five weeks a year after the birth or adoption of a child.
Washington is one of three states with paid family leave laws. California passed a paid family leave bill in 2002, and New Jersey did so last year (see NJ Paid Family Leave Bill Signed into Law ).
