ERISA Litigator Joins Drinker Biddle

April 17, 2013 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – Theodore M. Becker joined law firm Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP as a partner in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice Group.

Becker will serve as chair of the firm’s National Employee Benefits and ERISA Litigation Team. Becker focuses his practice on the representation of corporate plan sponsors and ERISA plan fiduciaries in litigation matters and regulatory agency investigations. He has represented some of the nation’s largest plan sponsors. Becker has successfully defended health care companies and insurers in ERISA cases, and in other matters involving breach of fiduciary responsibility, improper plan termination, denial of benefits, securities fraud and unfair competition.

He has particular expertise in litigation involving employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and has handled some of the leading cases involving such plans. Becker is an active member of the Legislative and Regulatory Advisory Committee of the ESOP Association and has published numerous articles and delivered many speeches on legal issues of interest relating to ESOPs.

Becker earned his law degree, summa cum laude, from Northwestern University where he also earned a doctorate and master’s degrees. He earned his bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from Washington University. Additionally, he taught at Yale Law School where he was a Russell Sage Fellow, and he was also a Fellow of the Northwestern University Program in Law and the Social Sciences.
