A Fifth of Workers Planning Workplace Shopping

November 23, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – Some 77% of those in a recent poll said they have lots of shopping planned this holiday season, but it won’t be at work.

Only 21% of employees surveyed by Accountemps indicated they plan some in-office shopping trips, estimating they could take up an average 1.9 hours per week, down from the 2.7 hours cited in 2007.

“In the current economic climate, office workers by and large are maintaining their focus on their jobs,” said Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps, in a news release. “Employees already have full plates, and shopping online at work may feel like a luxury they can’t afford.”

The national survey included interviews with 455 workers 18 years of age or older and employed full- or part-time in an office environment. It was conducted by an independent research firm.
