A Quarter of Workers Can’t Afford Vacation
Another 12% say they can afford a vacation, but don’t have plans to take one this year.
While the majority of workers are planning some time away from work, three-in-ten plan to take the office with them saying they will contact work while on vacation, up from 25% last year. Twelve percent of workers say they feel guilty that they’re not at work while they’re on vacation, according to a press release.
Nearly a quarter (24%) of workers report they have had to work while their family went on vacation without them.
As the economy heals, more than one-third (36%) of workers say they feel more comfortable taking a vacation than they did in 2010. One-in-four (26%) are planning a vacation of seven to 10 days, while 11% expect to vacation two weeks or longer. Twenty-four percent are planning for three to five days or a weekend getaway.
More than 5,600 workers participated in the nationwide study, which was conducted from February 21 to March 10, 2011.
