EBSA Compliance Seminar Set for August
The seminar will take place in Buffalo, New York, and aims to educate plan sponsors about basic fiduciary responsibilities.
The Employee Benefits Security Administration announced it will host another retirement plan compliance assistance seminar for small businesses in August. The last compliance seminar was held on June 28, also in Buffalo, New York.
As part of the Department of Labor’s “Getting It Right – Know Your Fiduciary Responsibilities” program, the seminar on August 3 in Buffalo, aims to increase awareness and understanding about basic fiduciary responsibilities when operating a retirement plan.
“Getting it right” can be especially challenging for small- and medium-sized employers who have limited time, resources and access to professional help with benefit programs, according to the DOL.
Topics covered in the seminar will include understanding your plan and your responsibilities; carefully selecting and monitoring service providers; making contributions on time; avoiding prohibited transactions and making appropriate disclosures to plan participants; and filing annual reports to the government on time.
EBSA’s program combines free seminars around the country, educational materials and a dedicated website page.
The free seminar will take place at Buffalo State University, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis through August 1.
Seminar partners include the Society for Human Resource Management, the National Federation of Independent Business, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the American Institute of Certified Accountants.
A full agenda can be found on EBSA’s website.
