Employment Growth Slows in April
On a positive note, however, the number of manufacturers looking for new employees increased on the month, and hiring projections for the month of May look positive.
However, this is the third month in a row in which hiring growth has slowed; it is also the sixth month running that the number of vacant positions has increased, seen mostly in non-exempt jobs.
The LINE Recruiting Difficulty Index is at its highest level since July of last year as well. According to LINE, this supports the conclusion that manufacturers are recruiting, but many are having a problem finding skilled labor to fill open positions. This results in an unsupported demand for labor in the US manufacturing sector.
LINE ( www.shrm.org/LINE ) is a collaboration between the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations.
