Faison to Become CFO at Virginia Retirement System

December 12, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com)- Barry Faison will succeed Gary Smith as the chief financial officer of the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).

For the last 11 years, Faison has served as VRS controller, responsible for:

  • the accounting and control functions of the pension system,
  • preparation of the agency’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, and
  • the development of information used by the VRS actuary in the preparation of the annual actuarial valuation reports for the independent state agency.

Between 1979 and 1989 he served as VRS accounting manager, and prior to that held auditing positions in the office of the Auditor of Public Account.

Faison received his BS degree in accounting and his MS degree in business with an accounting emphasis from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Government Financial Manager.

He is also a graduate of the Governor’s School at Duke University and the Virginia Executive Institute.
