How Likely Are You to Become Disabled?

July 1, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A new online tool helps individuals calculate their own Personal Disability Quotient, or PDQ.

The calculator, developed by the non-profit Council for Disability Awareness (CDA), first asks the user a few simple questions and calculates his or her personalized PDQ. It then estimates the user’s future earnings potential, and offers practical tips on how to prevent a disability if possible, or at least prepare for it financially, if unavoidable, according to a press release.

The tool’s educational resources are organized into two categories: disability prevention and financial protection, both of which link to information also available on the CDA’s main Web site, www.disabilitycanhappen.org . Prevention resources focus on health care, lifestyle and safety tips, while planning resources include tools to help people budget for lost income, tap into other benefits, and secure their financial plans, the press release said.

The calculator is accessible free-of-charge at www.WhatsMyPDQ.org .
