Target-date funds (TDFs) have accumulated an amazing mass of defined contribution (DC) retirement plan assets in what amounts to a relatively short period of time—having been made more attractive by their endorsement as a qualified default investment alternative (QDIA) by the Department of Labor (DOL) after the passage of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA).
