More Than Half Canadian Employers will Host a Holiday Party
According to a survey by BMO Bank of Montreal, regionally, employers in the Atlantic Provinces are most likely to host a celebration for their employees (69%) compared to those in Ontario (52%) and British Columbia (51%).
Of the respondents who indicated their bosses will be throwing a holiday party, 69% say it will be as generous as last year, and close to one in five say it will be scaled back from last year. Nationally, only 5% believe their holiday will be more generous than last year.
According to the survey, 57% of working Canadians do not plan on purchasing gifts for their co-workers or their bosses this year. Of those who do plan to make purchases, one in five (21%) say they will be buying gifts just for their co-workers and only 6% say they will buy a gift just for their bosses.
The BMO Bank of Montreal Survey was conducted by Leger Marketing, and was completed online from December 5-8, 2011, with a sample of 1,542 Canadian workers.
