Survey Finds 77% of Workers Would Leave Current Position to Become Independent Entrepreneur

to a new survey released by Aflac, 35% of U.S. adults reported the spirit of
the U.S. workforce is broken.

More than three quarters (69%) of employed adults reported their paycheck is the majority of the reason they work. Also, 77% of adults employed full/part-time, and not currently self-employed, stated they would leave their current position to become an independent entrepreneur. Ability to set one’s own hours, spend more time with friends and family, not have to deal with office politics, and/or not have to endure a daily commute, are just some of the many reasons they would be motivated to make a career change to become an independent entrepreneur.
"This survey reaffirms that many Americans lack fulfillment and passion for their jobs, and struggle with work/life balance," said Tom Giddens, Senior Vice President, Director of U.S. Sales at Aflac.
The online survey was conducted on Aflac's behalf by Harris Interactive in August 2011, among 2,220 U.S. adults ages 18+, of whom 1,272 were employed, and is part of the 2011 Aflac WorkForces Report.
