Some sources say Norman Mattoon Thomas, a Presbyterian minister, ran for president the most times—he was a six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America.
However, Harold E. Stassen, a former governor of Minnesota, educator and special presidential assistant, threw his hat in the ring nine times for the Republican party.
