USERRA Notice Bill Headed for President's Desk
November 30, 2004 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A bill
mandating that employers provide returning service personnel
with a notice telling them about their rights under the
Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act
(USERRA) is headed for the White House.

>This new federal notice requirement appears in a provision of The Veterans Benefits Improvement Bill of 2004 (S.2486). The new required notice can be met by posting the announcement where employers customarily provide such employee information, according to the law.
>The Secretary of Labor would have to make the required notice of USERRA rights available to employers no later than 90 days after the President signs the bill into law, according to the measure.
>The bill, sponsored by Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania), also includes a provision changing USERRA to increase from 18 months to two years the period during which employers must extend to an employee in military service the option of maintaining employer-sponsored health insurance coverage.
>The US Senate passed the measure on October 8, 2004, while the House followed suit November 17.
